Croce del Sud e felce argentata:
la Nuova Zelanda sceglie la sua nuova bandiera
Questa è la bandiera attuale della Nuova Zelanda, riporta la Union Jack simbolo del colonialismo che la nazione intende lasciarsi alle spalle
La Nuova Zelanda è pronta a cambiare bandiera per sostituire il vessillo che ancora ricorda il colonialismo britannico. Lo farà solamente dopo un articolato processo di selezione e di due voti popolari. L'iniziativa è del primo ministro John Key del New Zealand National Party. A maggio il governo ha lanciato il bando e a luglio si sono concluse le proposte per il disegno: ne sono arrivate quasi 10.300. Da queste ne sono state selezionate ben 40, ora un tavolo di esperti dovrà ridurre questa 'long list' a quattro. Poi interverrà la popolazione con il voto postale per determinare quale sarà quella che andrà al referendum. Nel 2016 il voto finale: i cittadini dovranno decidere se mantenere la vecchia bandiera oppure adottare quella nuova. Tra i temi scelti dalle migliaia di partecipanti i più 'gettonati' sono stati, naturalmente, i simboli della Nuova Zelanda: variazioni che raffigurano la felce argentata oppure il suo germoglio a spirale, il Koru e la costellazione della Croce del Sud.
