BRIGITTE Nielsen cuts a tragic sight as she swigs from a bottle of spirits in a Los Angeles park. The 49-year-old actress – who has a history of alcoholism – then laid out on the grass after drinking vodka. The ex-wife of Sylvester Stallone smoked cigarettes and appeared to vomit as she succumbed to her demons in full view of the public. Before walking home, five-times married Nielsen – who was at the Studio City park alone – drank mouthwash to disguise the smell of booze on her breath. The bedraggled Dane looked steeped in misery as she vacantly took in her surroundings through bleary eyes. And she did little to disguise herself, wearing jeans, trainers, a purple top and a baseball cap – occasionally donning a pair of sunglasses. Nielsen’s battle with the bottle has been long documented. In 2007 she checked herself into rehab after a reported intervention by family members who were worried about her drinking. After her stint in care, she said she felt “like a new-born person”.

She continued: “I made a choice about a new life. It’s not been easy but it was definitely time.” In 2008 Nielsen appeared on reality TV show Celebrity Rehab With Dr Drew in a renewed bid to beat alcoholism. Again, she appeared to be winning her battle and in 2010 the show’s producer John Irwin stated: “She’s sober and she quit smoking. She’s doing crazy good.” Nielsen shot to fame alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1985 movie Red Sonja after she’d made ripples in the modelling world. She met and married Stallone that same year and the couple appeared in two films together – Rocky IV and Cobra. Nielsen – who had previously been wed to Kasper Winding – and Stallone divorced in 1987. She went on to marry Sebastian Copeland, Raoul Meyer and then current hubby Mattia Dessi in 2006. The actress’ movie career has been on the wane since her '80s heyday, but she gained attention again in the UK when she appeared on 2005’s Celebrity Big Brother.
